Federal By-Election in Toronto-Danforth to be Held on May 19th

Elections Canada has issued the writ of election for a by-election in the electoral district of Toronto-Danforth. The by-elections will be held on 19 May 2012.

The Elections Act (Canada) sets out certain rules about when the by-elections must be held. The date of the by-election must be on a Monday (section 57(3) of the Elections Act), and must be at least 36 days after the issue of the writ (section 57(1.1) of the Elections Act). As the writ of election was issued today, the by-elections are scheduled for a Monday that is 42 days after the issuance of the writ.
