Federal Political Parties Receive Fourth Quarter Allowance

6 January 2011 | Election Finance

Elections Canada has announced that five political parties have received their quarterly allowance as per section 435.01 of the Elections Act (Canada). The following allowances were paid:

Bloc Québécois - $691,289
Conservative Party of Canada - $2,609,418
Green Party of Canada - $469,686
Liberal Party of Canada - $1,819,999
New Democratic Party - $1,260,002

If a political party receives at least 2% of the total votes cast in a general election, or at least 5% of the votes cast in the electoral districts it endorses a candidate in, it is eligible to receive the quarterly allowance.

The current annual allowance is $2.004 per vote. This allowance will be adjusted for inflation for the first quarter of 2011.
