Alberta Introduces Bill to Update Electoral Boundaries

4 November 2010 | Electoral Boundaries

Bill 28, the Electoral Divisions Act, was introduced into the Alberta Legislature and passed first reading yesterday.

This bill updates Alberta's electoral boundaries, reflecting the recommendations made by the Alberta Electoral Boundaries Commission (the "Commission") in its final report on Electoral Boundaries.

The Commission was directed to prepare recommendations to divide Alberta into 87 proposed provincial electoral divisions.

In June 2010, the Electoral Boundaries Commission's report was presented to the Assembly. On 26 October 2010, the Alberta Legislature approved the report but with changes to the recommended names of four electoral divisions.
