Electoral System Referendum Bill Passed by UK House of Commons

3 November 2010 | Electoral Systems, Referendum

The referendum on changing the electoral system in the UK from first past the post to the alternative vote cleared another hurdle yesterday as the House of Commons passed the Parliamentary Voting System and Constituencies Bill.

As reported by the BBC, the bill passed by a margin of 57 votes, with the Labour Party opposed.

The bill now goes to the House of Lords and if approved, the referendum scheduled for 5 May 2011 will go ahead as scheduled.
