Bill C-18: An Act to amend the Canada Elections Act

28 April 2010 | Voting

Bill C-18 was introduced in the House of Commons by the Minister of State for Democratic Reform and received first reading on 26 April 2010. This is the fourth attempt by the Conservative Party to increase the number of additional polls, as similar bills were introduced but not passed in the previous three sessions of Parliament.

This bill adds two new advance polling days to the campaign period, one on the Sunday eight days before election day and one on the Sunday immediately before election day. The bill would also require all regular polling stations (not just advanced polling stations) to be open on the Sunday before election day.
