Elections Canada Receives Notice of Vacancy in House of Commons for Haute-Gaspésie–La Mitis–Matane–Matapédia
25 October 2010 | By-elections
Following the resignation of Bloc Québécois MP Jean-Yves Roy on 22 October 2010, the Chief Electoral Officer of Canada received a warrant from the Speaker on 22 October 2010 indicating that the seat for Haute-Gaspésie–La Mitis–Matane–Matapédia is vacant.
A by-election must be called by the Governor in Council at least 11 days, but no more than 180 days following the receipt of the warrant. The Governor in Council will make an order to the Chief Electoral Officer to call the by-election by issuing a writ of election.
The by-election must be held on a Monday, and must be at least 36 days after the issue of the writ, meaning that the earliest date the by-election can be held is 13 December 2010.
There are already three by-elections scheduled for 29 November 2010 in Dauphin–Swan River–Marquette, Vaughan and Winnipeg North.
