Three Federal By-elections to be held on 29 November 2010

24 October 2010 | By-elections

Elections Canada has issued writs of election for three federal by-elections. The by-elections will be held on 29 November 2010 for the ridings of Dauphin–Swan River–Marquette (Manitoba), Vaughan (Ontario) and Winnipeg North (Manitoba).

The Elections Act (Canada) sets out certain rules about when the by-elections must be held. The date of the by-election must be on a Monday (section 57(3) of the Elections Act), and must be at least 36 days after the issue of the writ (section 57(1.1) of the Elections Act). As the writ of election was issued today, the by-elections are scheduled for 29 November 2010, a Monday that is 36 days from 24 October 2010.
