Conservatives to Repeal Prohibition on Transmitting Election Results Before Polls Close

13 January 2012 | Voting

According the CBC the Conservatives will repeal section 329 of the Elections Act (Canada). This section currently prohibits the transmission of election results before the close of all polling stations.

The practical difficulties in enforcing this section in current times was exposed during last years' election as thousands of Canadians broke this law by transmitting early election results on twitter.

The Conservatives plan on introducing legislation to make this change in the next few months.
