Quebec announces winners of the 2010 “Click for Me” Election Contest
12 May 2010 | Voting
The Chief Electoral Officer of Quebec announced today the winners of the 2010 “Click for Me” contest. Here is the news release from Elections Quebec (in french).
The Click for Me contest is a virtual elections project in which students make initiative-style propositions for improving their school, their community, or the Province of Quebec. An online election is organized by the Office of the CEO to determine the two winners.
This year’s winners are Jean Grignon-Francke in the elementary school division and Mélanie Morissette in the secondary school division. Jean’s proposition was entitled “For all the world, drinkable water is vital!”. Melanie’s proposition was “Promote reality, say no to digitally-altered advertising!” Jean and Melanie each received a laptop for their winning propositions.
This contest is such a great idea. It gets youth involved in thinking about their community and engages them in the process of democratic elections. Getting young people to vote is an important goal of election authorities in Canada and elsewhere. Ideas such as this one are sure to have a positive effect. Does your province have a contest like this? If not, suggest it to your local election authority!
